NEWTON | GOETHE | GALILEO – Reflections by Mischa Kuball

On the occasion of the exhibition NEWTON | GOETHE | GALILEO. Reflections by Mischa Kuball, the accompanying catalogue, published by Magonza Editore, will be presented in the presence of the artist Mischa Kuball.

The volume documents the exhibition through photographs of the installations and scholarly essays that explore its central themes, bringing contemporary art, the history of science, and the theory of colour into dialogue.

The catalogue opens with forewords by Ulrich Großmann, President of ASKI (Arbeitskreis selbständiger Kultur-Institute e.V.), and Monika Schnetkamp, Chair of the KAI 10 | Arthena Foundation. These are followed by texts on the exhibited works, an essay by Gregor H. Lersch examining the contrast between Goethe’s and Newton’s theories of colour, and an essay by the art historian Horst Bredekamp, Galileo and the Interplay of Light and Dirt (Galileo und das Zusammenspiel von Licht und Schmutz), which explores the role of light and material imperfections in Galileo’s observations and their significance for the emergence of modern scientific thought.

The catalogue presentation offers an opportunity to further explore the exhibition’s themes and the dialogue between art, science, and philosophy that lies at the heart of the project.
