The author presents the volume and reads a selection of poems. Introduction by Gregor H. Lersch.

In Poller. Idyllen, published by Suhrkamp Verlag in 2026, Ann Cotten presents a collection of poetry that brings the tradition of bucolic verse into the imagery and lived realities of the present. Taking Theocritus’s ancient idylls as her point of departure, she explores the forms that the seemingly natural, rural and harmonious can assume under contemporary social conditions and within today’s media landscape.

The poems combine precise observations of real situations with an approach to language that is both playful and reflective. Individual details become markers of time and points of connection where the present, memory and literary tradition converge. Cotten treats language as a reusable material: existing texts and images are taken up, reassembled and placed in unexpected contexts.

The volume is complemented by symbolic images created by the author.
