A Conversation with Cardinal Reinhard Marx on Pluralism and Social Change

Societies are undergoing profound change. In Rome as well as in Germany, politics, the Church and culture are evolving: long-held certainties are being called into question, new perspectives are emerging, and public debates are becoming increasingly contentious. These developments raise important questions about social cohesion, how to engage with differing beliefs and convictions, and the conditions necessary for meaningful dialogue.

Taking these developments as its starting point, the panel discussion explores how respectful coexistence can be fostered in a pluralistic society. What roles do the Church, politics and culture play in times of far-reaching transformation? What significance do the issues of security and safeguarding hold in this context? And how can differing perspectives contribute to mutual understanding and social cohesion?

The panel features Cardinal Reinhard Marx, Manuela Leimgruber (Ambassador of Switzerland to the Holy See) and Gregor H. Lersch (Casa di Goethe). The discussion will be moderated by Anna Preckel (Vatican Radio).
