Constellation 1

Troves of German stories found on forays through Rome.

In the exhibition “Constellation 1” from 30.11.2016 until 12.03.2017, the Casa di Goethe is showing the first part of a series of exhibitions that illustrates the rediscovery of German stories and treasures in Rome. The project, designed by Giuseppe Garrera and curated together with Maria Gazzetti (Director of the Casa di Goethe), is above all an homage to Walter Benjamin, to “Flânerie” and to a passion for collecting, to the numerous stories, signs and traces of civilisation that are hidden away in junk shops and on the premises of second-hand dealers, junk dealers and antiquarians in a major city. In this first display of finds, you can view, for instance, rare book editions with drawings by Manet and Renoir, original prints by Albrecht Dürer and Francis Bacon, manuscripts from Ernst Bernhard, unpublished letters from Reinhard Dohrn – all chance discoveries in the streets of Rome.
