The Austrian artist ROBERT GSCHWANTNER (*1968) broaches in his work human intrusion into nature and the associated transformation of landscape. The focus of his Roman “Grand Tour in Pictures and Objects” is on two artificial landscapes which were laid out in antiquity: the waterfalls of the “Cascata delle Marmore” near Terni and the ancient port facilities Portus (Lago di Traiano) in Fiumicino near Rome. On exhibit are videos, antique drawings, books and “picture objects” in which nature, landscape, technology and architecture merge into the most diverse perspectives – all interwoven with a linear structure of transparent PVC tubes in which liquids collected on site are preserved. Each glimpse reveals a new journey into a shimmering kaleidoscope of visual experiences and associated traces into the history of fascinating technical and cultural achievements.
