Part of ‘Filmpalast Deutschland. German history told by the cinema”.
A series of film encounters to cover contemporary German history, divided into seven dates, using film as a historical source from which to analyse the individual period. Each film will be introduced and presented by a studio/a scholar who will help the audience contextualise the work in its historical period. The initiative is organised in collaboration between the Italian Institute of German Studies, the German Historical Institute in Rome, the Goethe-Institut Rom and the Goethe House Museum.

On a large construction site in the DDR, foreman Balla and his men can afford to behave in an unorthodox manner, as their way of working is very productive. When the young technician Kati and the party secretary Horrath arrive at the construction site, the balance between the construction management and the workers begins to waver. Both Balla and Horrath fall in love with Kati and the situation precipitates. DEFA film.
